Poole Forge Day – Program of Activities

Come join us for a day of family activities.  At our picnic pavilion, we begin the day with arts and crafts for children, along with the wildlife display of local mammals and reptiles.  We also have a program with live raptors where children can observe and learn up close about the behavior and characteristics of various raptors.  The day long, multi- field Amish youth volleyball tournament begins and Penn’s Woods Puppet Theater presents 4 shows throughout the course of the day.  A Conestoga and Gruber Wagon are on display with historical lectures and presentations on the lime kiln. Antique brass cars are also on display and  parade through the park at noon.  Local art, historical and native American craft vendors have demonstrations and goods for purchase. The Lancaster Spinners and Weavers Guild are also demonstrating throughout the day as well as long arm rifles, local traditional blacksmiths and beekeepers.  There is an extensive silent auction, ending at 1:00 with goods and certificates donated by our local businesses and our Annual Poole Forge quilt up for raffle.  The afternoon brings the ever popular Turtle Race in the Conestoga Creek and the day concludes with a fiercely competitive Fireman’s Tug of War. New this year, we feature a pet parade with prizes in the categories; most unusual, most historical, most creative among others.  Pet parade participants also have the opportunity to pose with our featured 1890’s Veterinary wagon. New this year also is a dunking booth, where visitors have the opportunity to dunk some of our local politicians and businessman.   The Ironmaster’s mansion, with it’s recent renovations is open for tours and live music throughout the day on the porch.  The Caernarvon Ladies Auxiliary, Hen House Grilling,  Menno Tea and Lickity Split all have a great selection of food, beverages and ice-cream for sale.  This a free event for the community, with entrainment  for both children and adults. Hours from 9:00-6:00.
